Connected Kids, Informed Parents
May 3 9:00 am
Our modern existence is characterized by perpetual influence—technological devices, social platforms, digital interruptions, and cultural pressures surround us continuously. Over the next four weeks, we'll discover pathways to live as deeply rooted, fully present disciples of Jesus amid this hyperconnected landscape. Every gathering offers scripture-based wisdom and tangible strategies to escape digital saturation and restore Christ to the center of our lives.
Technology surrounds us—from smartphones to smartwatches, AI to robotics. The word “technology” derives from Greek: “tekton” (craftsman) and “logos” (word). Our ability to innovate reflects being created in the image of a creative God.
Yet technology has a shadow side. It’s made us information-obsessed, perpetually connected, and increasingly self-focused. MIT’s Sherry Turkle notes that technology promises to fulfill three core human desires: gaining attention, being heard, and never experiencing loneliness.
Instead of letting technology consume our every moment, what if we embraced stillness? Technology cannot fill our inner void—only God can. How might our lives transform if we practiced Psalm 46:10: “Be still and know that I am God”?
This week we’ll examine how establishing clear boundaries in our digital lives creates space for what’s truly sacred. In a culture that celebrates constant connectivity, setting intentional limits becomes a countercultural act of spiritual wisdom. We’ll explore how Scripture consistently portrays boundaries not as restrictive limitations but as divine protections that foster flourishing. Through biblical examples and contemporary research, we’ll discover how digital boundaries protect our spiritual vitality, mental health, and relational connections. This week challenges us to identify specific areas where technology has overstepped its proper place in our lives and establish thoughtful guardrails that honor God’s design for human thriving. By reclaiming these sacred boundaries, we create space for deeper communion with Christ, more authentic presence with loved ones, and greater alignment with our true purpose. Together, we’ll develop personalized boundary frameworks that empower us to use technology as faithful stewards rather than distracted consumers in our hyperconnected world.
How do we navigate our relationship with technology? Technology has fundamentally transformed our lives and routines—there’s no reversing this reality. But how can we discern God’s will amid our tech-saturated existence?
We live in technologically unprecedented times. MIT’s Sherry Turkle, in her book “Alone Together,” identifies emerging trends: presentation anxiety about our online personas and the rise of emojis to convey emotions that texting alone cannot capture. Despite unprecedented connectivity, we’re experiencing profound isolation.
What if we prioritized two simple words in our tech-saturated lives: “In Person”? Some aspects of life can only be fully experienced face-to-face.
