One Holy Church

The Nicene Creed has three long sections about Father, Son, and Spirit. And tucked inside the section about the Holy Spirit are these surprising words:
“We believe in one holy worldwide and apostolic Church.” Believing in Father, Son, and Spirit—though mysterious—is often easier than believing in the Church…because “the Church” includes people, including us. The Church is not a human invention—it’s God’s idea. And baptism is the Creed’s reminder that we confront sin honestly, not as spectators of the church’s failures, but as participants who belong to it. Baptism tells us we are already one and already holy in Christ—now we must learn to live into what is already true.
